 Wheeler just hanging
Ah, Scorpions jokes aside, the Boston Bruins opened a can of much needed whoop-ass on the Carolina Hurricanes last night to the tune of 5-2. The Bruins took care of business at the RBC Center when it looked like the game was going slip away from them. Up 3-1, Erik Cole stuffed home his second goal of the game and Bruins' fans everywhere went "We've seen this before". What we weren't ready for was the offensive surge that happened with Michael Ryder and David Krecji putting the game away.
That's right ladies and gentlemen, Michael Ryder was actually useful for one shift! Fear the apocolypse because it is apparently upon us.
Tuukka Rask was solid in net, not spectacular but not abysmal by any means, stopping 30 of the 32 shots that came his way. Rask did just what he needed to do to win, but the hand shake/pat on the ass/high five of the night/generic congats goes to the offense.
The Bruins offense clicked tonight, plain and simple. Could it be because they played the worst team in the East? Possibly. Could it be that the Bruins were playing Carolina's umpteenth goalie this season? Probably. Whatever the reason is, they got the job done last night and showed flashes of brillance every now and then. It was refreshing, to say the least.
What you want a team to do is win games they should win, something the Bruins haven't done much of this year. This is a should win and almost a must win game with the New York Rangers breathing down their neck. The Rags losing to Montreal coupled with a Bruins win gives them a little breathing room heading into their game on Sunday against said Rags.
Even if the Bruins lose to Pittsburgh on Thursday and the Rags defeat the Blues, the Bruins will still have a 1 point lead heading into Sunday's 12:30pm game.
The game against Carolina was one they needed to win and they did.
Happy St. Patrick's Day you drunks.
