James Wood/FlickrOwners Jerry and Ann Moss and trainer John Shirreffs are happy to report that Zenyatta, winner of 19 consecutive races in a 20 race career, has refused to let the 2010 Eclipse Award for Horse of the Year turn her into an unbearable, cocky, hotshot celebrity.
"Still the same old Zenyatta," said Jerry Moss, noting that the 7-year-old mare's attitude and demeanor haven't changed at all since winning the award. "She still enjoys her two hour walks and galloping through the meadow, almost as if the award meant nothing to her."
Trainer John Shirreffs was worried Zenyatta would think a little too much of herself, with dissatisfied neighs and whinnies if the water or food in her trough wasn't to her liking.
"I was anticipating behavior like last year's winner, Rachel Alexandra, who I heard was very difficult if she wasn't given mineral water from the French alps and the finest 14% protein sweet feed supplemented with biotin and selenium."
"It's refreshing that Zenyatta, a horse of such high acclaim, whose lifetime earnings total more than $7 million dollars, still eats the same food, drinks the same well water, and doesn't mind spending her days in a smelly barn stall that wreaks of her own urine and feces."
