ChevyGuy54/FlickrClint Bowyer's No. 33 failed a post-race inspection following his NSCS at New Hampshire win, resulting in a penalty of 150 driver and 150 owner points, which NASCAR has decided to donate to children's charities all throughout the South.
"It would be a complete shame for those Chase points to go to waste," said Vice President of Competition, Robin Pemberton. "NASCAR has always had ties to the communities of our fans, and believes in giving back. We feel very strongly that these stripped points can be put to good use at children's hospitals, orphanages and after school programs."
Pemberton admits it's an unusual gift, but due to poor attendance figures, Chase points are about all they can afford to donate anyway.
"Hopefully these points can somehow bring a little joy or hope to some orphan or kid with cancer or something, even if they are every bit as imaginary as a unicorn. But kids seem to like unicorns, so whatever."
