Apr. 27, 2010 - Talladega, Alabama, United States - 25 April 2010: Rick Hendrick Motorsports teammates - Jeff Gordon (24) Chevrolet Impala SS and Dale Earnhardt Jr (88) Chevrolet Impala SS - race together in the Aarons 499 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway in Talladega, Alabama.

With an eye toward making a run at the Sprint Cup Series Championship, Hendrick Motorsports picked up a topflight fuel injection system in hopes of making the fuel delivery more efficient for one of its racing teams.

"We needed something to put is in better position for the chase," said Chairman and CEO Rick Hendrick. "This fuel injection system should give us a lot more horsepower while improving fuel economy and creating fewer emissions. Might as well help the environment while we're at it."

Hendrick Motorsports had to part with several quarts of fuel system additive, some air filters and a used drum-to-disc brake conversion kit in order to pull of the swap. Despite the steep price, Hendrick is expecting better results than the ill-fated deadline deal of 2007 that netted them spinner rims for all of its cars in exchange for some fittings and hoses.

"That move did little to make our cars faster. It just pimped them out a bit."
