Wishing Boston sports fans would forget about their 3-0 collapse in the NHL's Eastern Conference Finals, members of the Boston Bruins secretly hope the Celtics become the NBA's first team to drop four straight games after taking a 3-0 series lead.
"We want people to forget about our historic failure," said Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara. "Chances are they probably will, since it was hockey and all, but if the Celtics would drop four in a row, they'd be the first basketball team to ever do that. Fans in Boston would dwell on that forever. That would be awesome."
Chara says the various Celtic injuries, as well as the Kendrick Perkins technicals could not have occurred at a better time. For the Bruins.
"We couldn't have written a better script. It would have been nice if Paul Pierce had gotten a concussion instead of Big Baby, but we'll take it nonetheless. Playing shorthanded will definitely increase their chances of losing. Now all we need is Kevin Garnett's knees to fail him, and we'll be sitting really pretty."
Should the Celtics somehow hold on and win the series, the Bruins say they hope something really tragic happens to the Patriots or Red Sox.
"Another 18-1 season would be sweet," added left wing Milan Lucic. "The Sox losing a one game playoff to the Yankees or something would be nice too. It's just too bad the Sox aren't even in playoff contention right now. They aren't good enough to even have a chance at an epic choke job. What a bunch of losers."
