After earning one of the last at-large bids for the 2010 NCAA Tournament, the Minnesota Golden Gophers, an 11 seed, are set to play 6th seeded Xavier in the first round. Coach Tubby Smith says his players are excited to continue playing, and couldn't think of a better place for them to spend Spring Break than Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
"If you told our players at the beginning of the year they'd sneak into the tournament on the last weekend, they'd be ecstatic," said the Golden Gopher head coach. "And the good thing about it being Spring Break is that we have nothing to do but watch film, and prepare for Xavier. These guys don't have to worry about class or nothing. This is going to be the best Spring Break ever!"
Smith's players have a different opinion.
"Yeah, I always wanted to go to basketball practice and travel to Milwaukee for Spring Break," said reserve guard Joe Brunfeld. "I play exactly zero minutes per game and I have to give up a trip to South Padre to sit on the end of the bench. In Milwaukee. Not too many hotties on the beach in Milwaukee in the middle of March. Milwaukee. Unbelievable."
Added walk-on forward Maurice Garber. "There'd better be a wet T-shirt contest at halftime, or this trip will be a total waste."
