A surprise division leader for much of the season, the San Diego Padres have started to drop a few games in the standings and are relieved to finally be playing like the last place team everyone thought they'd be at the start of the season.
"It's like a weight has been lifted," said manager Bud Black, whose team has lost 5 1/2 games in the standings in the last two weeks. "Sure we're gonna win a couple here and there with the number of games we play, but it's a total relief we've finally grasped our total incompetence on the baseball field."
Black's only regret is that his team didn't sustain a lengthy losing streak much earlier, which would have allowed them to 'enjoy the baseball season without the stresses of having to get quality at-bats and score runs and stuff'.
