Jun. 07, 2010 - Cleveland, OHIO, UNITED STATES - epa02191207 Austin Kearns of the Cleveland Indians sits in the dirt after being caught in a rundown to end the first inning agaiinst the Boston Red Sox in their game at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio, USA, 07 June 2010.

Major League Baseball's All-Star break is less than a week away, but for some players and teams it cannot come soon enough. Wanting to get a jump on their vacation plans, the Cleveland Indians have asked Major League Baseball if it would be OK for them to forgo their final series before the break, and get out of town a few days early.

"This season has already been a grind, and I'm looking forward to having some fun," said outfielder Austin Kearns. "Not that playing baseball isn't fun. It's just that I play for the Indians and we are in last place. Plus, I found a great deal on some cheap tickets to Vegas if I can get out of town before the weekend."

Pitcher Joe Smith says a break of only three or four days is much too short.

"We play so many games the way it is, so I doubt baseball can get too upset if we skip out a little prematurely. It would be a complete waste to go to Cabo for only three days anyway. One travel day there and another back leaves only one day to get my party on."

Added third baseman Andy Marte, "There's 29 other teams. Keeping all of us around right up until the All-Star Break would be overkill."

Manager Manny Acta says no matter what the MLB office decides, any amount of time away from his team would be gladly received.
