With the conclusion of the World Series, players with expired contracts were eligible to file for free agency. The list of free agents consists of some big names, including Jason Bay, Matt Holliday and John Lackey, as well as several others. The Baltimore Oriole fan base has also decided to try their luck on the free agent market.
"It just seems like the right thing to do for us as a fan base," said Wade Thompson, a 41-year-old fan from Eastwick Point, Maryland. "We've stuck with the Orioles long enough and haven't seen any results. We're sick of watching the Yankees and Red Sox beat us year after year. Lets see if another franchise has more to offer."
Despite the entire fan base filing for free agency, Baltimore management has yet to concede the loss.
"We're going to do all we can to hold on to our fans," said a team spokesman. "If we have to overpay for hyped up free agents like we did in the late 90s and early 2000s to give our fans some false hope, then that's exactly what we'll do."
