Steve Chihos/FlickrWith a likely NFL lockout on the horizon, millions of people across the country have been forced to play fantasy hockey, basketball, baseball and other sports to guarantee they get their fantasy fix.
"We're seeing all kinds of people sign up for different leagues," said Nate Kelpon of Yahoo! Fantasy Sports. "Bass Fishing Pick 'Em is at an all-time high, and you wouldn't believe the popularity of Fantasy Bowling. We've even received thousands of emails requesting Fantasy WNBA, showing just how desperate Americans are to put together make believe teams and play against their friends."
Martin Zuckarelli of Lester, Rhode Island joined a fantasy baseball league with his co-workers, even though he's not much of a baseball fan.
"It's a 5x5 head-to-head league, and while I'm not 100% sure what exactly that means, a sport like baseball that plays everyday will allow me to incessantly check my line-up, player statistics and the waiver wire like never before, which is what playing fantasy sports is all about."
Google and Bing are reporting an exponential increase in searches for "restrictor plate racing", "good race car drivers" and "How is the Goodyear G-19 Eagle racing tire affected by concrete racing surfaces with variable banking in 62 degree weather?" presumably to aid in decision making for Fantasy NASCAR.
