Only a few days into his first training camp with the team, new Oakland Raiders head coach Hue Jackson is already showing that he possesses all of the necessary tools that it takes to get owner Al Davis to give him the ax after just a few seasons.
"Hue has already stated that he has really high expectations for this Raider team, which, once they fall short like they always do, will lead to his inevitable termination," said Stan Binsley of the Oakland Tribune, pointing out that the ill-advised confidence he shows in quarterback Jason Campbell and his 27-37 career record as a starter puts Jackson right on track to be dismissed by Davis in a couple years. "With Jackson's inexperience considering this is his first head job coupled with Davis's irritability, he's in a great position to be let go when it's all said and done."
For a rookie coach, the burden of overcoming nearly a decade of substandard football with an impatient owner desperate to once again achieve the glory days of the 70s and early 80s is, says the Tribune reporter, without a doubt, too much too handle.
"Jackson all but guaranteed Davis he'll revive the history and tradition of the Raiders organization," Binsley said. "His daring boldness, a trait Al Davis ironically admires, will soooo get him fired, because, let's face it, no head coach can deliver on a crazy promise like that."
The San Jose Mercury News is reporting that there hasn't been this type of buzz surrounding the future firing of a Raiders head coach since Norv Turner was at the helm.
