Wilson Tai/FlickrDale Paulgren, a 33-year-old man from Dubuque, Iowa, says he was 'totally lost' during the Super Bowl and had no way of understanding the key story lines since he failed to watch the 5-hour pregame show leading up to the big game.
"It was like jumping into a movie halfway through," said Paulgren. "I had no clue if a seemingly mundane special teams tackle by Pittsburgh's Crezdon Butler carried more weight than normal based on a human interest piece Fox might have run, detailing some hardship he overcame in his childhood."
"The pregame show answered several important questions leading up to the game," guessed Paulgren, "hard-hitting stuff every football fan needed to know. Things like 'Would a win by the Steelers classify them as a dynasty?', 'Can Aaron Rodgers escape Brett Favre's shadow?' and 'Who has better hair, Troy Polamalu or Clay Matthews?' "
Paulgren speculates the skit by Frank Caliendo, although goofy, may have provided some real insight into the game and possibly the history of each of the franchises.
"I bet Caliendo, or whatever character he was playing, provided expert analysis, all while making fun of Terry Bradshaw."
The emotions that were experienced by the victorious Packers were also lost on Paulgren, since he didn't get to see Fox's crew of Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Michael Strahan and Jimmy Johnson describe exactly how it feels to win a Super Bowl.
