RMTip21/FlickrFormer Grizzles forward and first round draft pick Stromile Swift is concerned that Memphis' run in this year's playoffs could result in fans having a diminished memory of his time with the club or that some may even forget about his career with the franchise entirely.
"I hope basketball fans in Memphis don't think less of or forget my accomplishments here just because of what [the Grizzlies] did for the past few weeks," said Swift, in the top 10 on the Grizzlies' career list in 14 statistical categories. "They shouldn't forget that I'm one of the all-time greats for the Vancouver/Memphis franchise, in the record books as a career leader in points, rebounds and minutes played—right behind Bryant "Big Country" Reeves."
For what he calls two "dream" seasons, Swift, the number-2 overall pick in the 2000 NBA Draft, averaged almost 10 points and 5 rebounds a game in leading the Grizzlies to not one, but two first-round playoff losses, both sweeps.
"Not many guys can top that, except for maybe Mike Miller. He was here on all three of those legendary Memphis teams that got swept in the first-round. So lucky."
When asked if he remembered the 6-9 forward, Mike Wentiner, the sole Grizzlies fan prior to Game 4 of this year's Western Conference Semifinals, said he had "a slew" of Stromile Swift memories before realizing he had actually been thinking of Lorenzen Wright.
