Brett Farmiloe/FlickrTrevor Baine, a 6-1 guard junior guard Iowa State, says even though it's really tempting to forgo his final year of eligibility to pursue the riches and fame of the NBA, he is going to take what he calls "a more sensible, levelheaded approach" and declare for the D-League draft instead.
"I could take a chance of getting drafted by an NBA team, but those are some slim odds," said Baine, pointing out that once you factor in all of the graduating seniors, underclassmen leaving early and international players, he'd only stand about a 0.1% chance of getting selected. "And it's nice that you don't have to go buy a fancy suit for the D-League draft. It's more of a casual affair in the hallway of the Sioux Falls (South Dakota) Arena since it coincides with a farm show."
Baine says he's always dreamed of playing basketball for a living and seeing the country by traveling from city to city on team road trips, which he will technically still do in such D-League stops as Rio Rancho, New Mexico and Fort Wayne, Indiana.
