Jared_SullingerPenn State/FlickrAfter UConn's 53-41 title game victory over Butler where the two teams combined to shoot 26% while missing 34 three-pointers, the NCAA announced that the Ohio State Buckeyes will be recognized as the top team in men's college basketball.

"After another fantastic tournament filled with numerous close games and exciting upsets, the NCAA is pleased to once again determine the best team in the sport," said Men's Basketball Selection Committee Chairman Eugene Smith on the awards stand in Reliant Stadium following the game. "I'd like to congratulate the University of Connecticut and head coach Jim Calhoun on a fantastic season, but it doesn't feel right to hand them a trophy on a night they scored a mere nineteen points in the first half."

Smith says the committee will just go ahead and name the number-1 overall seed Ohio State Buckeyes as the kings of college basketball.

"Congratulations to Ohio State and coach Thad Motta for being the best team in America coming in to the tournament, and now the best team in America at the tournament's conclusion. Your overall win-loss record, RPI and strength of schedule are the mark of a champion."

UConn and Butler will be awarded trophies for 13th best team and 29th best team respectively.
