Erik_SpoelstraKeith Allison/FlickrSpeaking to the media at his annual end of the season press conference, Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra informed those in attendance that team president Pat Riley will not make a return to the bench to lead the Heat at any time in the foreseeable future.

"Pat Riley will not be head coach of the Miami Heat next year, the year after that or a couple years down the road," said Spoelstra, insisting that the Heat president is happy with his current role and direction of the team. "Did we fall short of our goal? Yes. Could you put some blame on myself as the coach? I suppose you could. Does it actually take a great head coach to say 'Set a screen for Dwyane Wade' or 'Let's get the ball to Lebron'? Probably not. But bottom line, the guy that gets to do those things will be me, and not Pat Riley."

Riley, next to address the media, patted his coach on the shoulder while giving him his "full support," and said he will have no desire to leave the front office and replace Spoelstra as long as the Miami Heat win the NBA Championship for the next 6 or 7 years.
