New York Yankees GM Brian Cashman and owner Hank Steinbrenner are daring free agent shortstop Derek Jeter to ask for that type of contract again, only this time "look us in the eye and do it with a straight face."

"We appreciate everything Jeter has done as a member of the New York Yankees," said Cashman. "But if he's going to keep bursting into laughter everytime he gives his contract demands, I don't think we can take him seriously. The first time he said 5 years, $100 million dollars, I thought he was just making a joke to lighten the mood of a tense negotiation."

The 36-year-old Jeter says he really thinks he's worth that kind of money, even though he's coming off arguably the worst statistical year of his career, and can't help from cracking up and doing a spit take each time he's in a room with Cashman and the Steinbrenners.

"At this stage of my career, I'm still worth $100 million," said Jeter, snorting as he tries to get the words out while fighting back laughter."No, really.......I...spfspfftftf.....hahahahahahahha."

Hank Steinbrenner says they'll probably meet Jeter halfway eventually, because "they haven't laughed that hard in a really long time."
