Major League Baseball's 30 teams played roughly 2500 games in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and Japan over the course of six months, plus another month of playoff games only to end up with the Giants as the so-called best team in baseball.

"Certainly, this is not what we anticipated when the season started," said MLB commissioner Bud Selig. "We at the MLB offices sincerely apologize to fans everywhere that watched a 92-win team with a roster of misfits and cast-offs somehow navigate a 162-game schedule and three playoff series to become baseball's alleged world champion."

To prevent a similar lackluster, disappointing result next year, baseball is urging the Yankees, Phillies and Red Sox to have a really solid off-season.

"We would have included other big market teams like the Cubs and Mets too, but it's more entertaining to watch them fail year in year out."

The Royals insist they will never let baseball down by winning the World Series.
