Ok, I'll bite. This is the most memorable thing for me when it comes to the series Beverley Hills 90201:

Brewers and Cubs begin crucial series'

The Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs are staring down the barrel of the same gun this weekend when they both open up four game sets with the first and second place teams in the NL Central.

The Brewers will face the St. Louis Cardinals who themselves sit a half game back in the division, while Milwaukee is 8.5 games back.

The Cubs will take on the first place Cincinnati Reds. Chicago is 9.5 games out of first.

There stands the very real possibility that one or both of these teams will be completely out of the hunt when we wake up Monday morning, though I struggle at this point to find many reasons to believe they are in right now.

Only two teams in the majors have scored fewer runs than the Houston Astros (the Orioles and the Mariners) no team has scored less than the Pittsburgh Pirates. Yet both of these teams managed to take two of three from the Brewers and Cubs respectively.

Only the Arizona Diamondbacks have allowed more runs than the Pirates in 2010, yet the Cubs scratched just five runs in their latest three game series. Oh, and those aforementioned Mariners. Yes, that is the same team that took two of three from the Cubs just a week ago, outscoring them 12-4.

The Brewers did manage to go 15-13 in the month of June, winning seven of their last 10, but this new month will prove to be a bit more difficult. It begins tonight with the Cardinals and is followed by four games with the Giants, who despite struggling lately, have one of the best pitching staffs in baseball.

The Cubs finished June 10-16, including going 4-8 against Pittsburgh, Houston and Seattle, all bottom of the barrel teams. July will be much tougher (though no Pirates so...), they have four with the Reds, four with the Dodgers, four with the Phillies and three with the Cardinals. If the Reds don't finish off the Cubs, it's likely one of those teams will.

Look for the opponents reactions from both series at Three Way Chili (Reds) and Cards Diaspora

Are we at the dawn of a pitching era?

In 1990 and in 1991 Major League Baseball saw a record seven no-hitters thrown in each season. The final one coming on Septemer 11th, 1991, when Atlanta Braves pitchers Kent Mercker, Mark Wohlers and Alejandro Pena combined to shut down the San Diego Padres.

In 2010, there have already been four no-hitters thrown (should be five), including two perfect games (should be three), marking the first time in MLB history that two perfect games have been thrown in the same season.

All of this pitching dominance begs the question: Are we entering a new era in baseball? Has the steriod era reached it's finale? Or is this just a blip on the ever changing landscape of Major League Baseball?

"Shutout Era"

Let's assume that the "Steroid Era" began around 1993, or at least that is when the numbers began to change. That will give us a gauge as we go forward and compare 2010 to the years before.

The "Shutout Era". That's what one person dubbed it. Though it's nothing like it was. In 2009 there were 63 shutouts. In 2010 we are on pace to see 61. In 2007 there were only 43, and 10 teams didn't record even one. For the second half of the decade the number of shutouts thrown were between 63-69 per season. Between 2000 and 2003 the average was 76, with 2002 skewing the numbers a bit with 87.

In 1988 there were 182 shutouts thrown and in 1992 there were 146, and every team recorded at least one.

In 1988 the league average for runs per game allowed by starters was 4.14. This season the average is is 4.46 (down from 4.61 in 2009). That is the lowest it's been since 1992, when it was 4.12. In 1993 that number rose to 4.60. In 2000 the MLB hit a 20 year high of 5.14 runs per game per team.

What a night for the Blackhawks. Once again they let their opponent jump out to an early lead. This time though they dominated the third period, scoring three goals, including one shorthander in a 4-2 series tying win over the Canucks. The shorthander was the second shorthanded game tying goal for the Hawks in the 2010 playoffs.

"Traveling the I" with the Brewers, White Sox and Cubs (Week 3)
Written by Rex Jaybels

i94sports

What difference a week can make. It's the nature of the Major League Baseball season to ride the roller-coaster from week to week and series to series. The three I-94 teams know this all too well. Let's "Travel the I."

Brewers

From a 36-1 drubbing of the Pirates over three games from Tuesday to Thursday to a weekend disaster against the Cubs, at Miller Park, the Brewers reached the highest of highs and the lowest of lows in a matter of six days. A 20 run game on Thursday should have given the Brewers all the momentum they would need to take on their I-94 rivals; instead the Brewers struggled to get men on base over the weekend and were outscored 25-4.

Who's Hot - It's hard to pick a player that's hot coming off the series the Brewers just had, but Ryan Braun was un-pitchable in Pittsburgh. Braun was 7-for-11 with two homers and right RBI in those three games. Jim Edmonds is seven for his last 20 with a home run. In limited time, Craig Counsell is batting .556 in the last seven days.

Yovani Gallardo and Doug Davis each gave the Brewers solid starts this week and Manny Parra and Carlos Villanueva combined for seven innings of scoreless relief.

Who's Not - Prince Fielder continued his slow start, batting just .238 over the last six days and Casey McGehee went 4-for-20 in five games and Greg Zaun (now hitting .157) batted just .188 in four games.

Suppan was hit hard again, prompting his move to the bullpen, but he Brewers finished the week with an ERA of 3.83, the Cubs series off-setting the Pirates series.

Milwaukee entered the Cubs series one game above .500 and in second place, they finished two games under and in fourth. The Brewers should be able to put the Cubs series behind them rather quickly with the Pirates coming to town for three games and then it's off to San Diego to face one of baseball's hottest teams.

White Sox

The White Sox lose two of three to Tampa Bay, then walk-off with wins the next two nights and win another in their final at bat in the third game. It appears that the Sox are relying heavily on the long ball, and while I don't see any problem with that, some do. In my opinion this team is built to play long ball, whether they like it or not. Unitl Juan Pierre, Gordon Beckham, AJ, and Alexei start hitting, they will have to rely on home runs, and against the Mariners, it worked just fine.

Who's Hot - Paul Konerko leads all of baseball with eight home runs, hitting four this week while batting .450 and driving in six. Andruw Jones also went deep three times this week including a walk off, one of two homers on his 33rd birthday.

John Danks allowed just three earned runs in 16 innings pitched in two wins this week. He struck out 14 and walked only two. Sergio Santos continued his scoreless streak with three more innings of solid relief.

Who's Not - Carlos Quentin and A.J. Pierzynski combined for two hits in 36 ABs this week. Beckham and Alexei Ramirez combined for just six hits in 39 ABs.

Jake Peavy continued to struggle, his ERA now at 7.66 following a four inning stint against the Rays. Gavin Floyd's slow start also continued as he surrendered five runs in 6.1 innings Friday against the Mariners.

Despite the sweep the Sox find themselves five games behind the division leading Minnesota Twins and they have a tough road trip ahead of them with three in Texas and three more in New York.

Cubs

The Cubs dropped two of three to one-win Houston at home, and then three of four to the struggling Mets before taking all three from the Brewers. Who knows what will happen when the Nationals and Diamondbacks come to town. The story line is the same for the Cubs as it was opening week, solid starting pitching, and until this past weekend a very quiet and inconsistent offense. Oh and lets not forget about that nightmare of a bullpen, of which Carlos Zambrano is now a member.

Who's Hot - The Cubs over the last seven days are hitting .300 as a team with Marlon Byrd at .500, Ryan Theriot at .500, Geo Soto at .467, Tyler Colvin at .438 and Kosuke Fukudome at .400. Soto has a .636 OBP over the last seven days.

Randy Wells gave up just three earned runs in 13 innings of work this week. Carlos Silva actually saw his ERA go up with an earned run in New York, it's now at 0.95.

Who's Not - Derrek Lee hit just .148 this week and Aramis Ramirez continued to slump, batting just .080. Ramirez has now struck out 23 times on the season.

All in all the Cubs pitching was pretty solid this week. John Grabow gave up two more runs in New York and Sean Marshall was touched up as well, but the Cubs finished the week with an ERA of 2.70 as a team.

Every Monday i94 Sports will recap the week that was for the Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs in a segment called "Traveling the I."

I disappoint myself sometimes when it comes to things that I have never seen or heard, but when my ears came across this little gem, I had to share it. I warn you, it has some extremely foul language, but it's Earl Weaver, so what the f**k did you expect.

Back to my regularly scheduled shi**y a** fu**ing programming. That felt good.

I don't really understand the point of fighting in the NHL, but it's allowed, so whatever. But things can go terribly wrong when a fight breaks out, no pun intended. Watch this clip from a Green Bay Gamblers game:
